About The Chihuahua
The Chihuahua originated from the Mexican state Chihuahua.
They come in many varieties of color. There are long haired and smooth coats (which is a short haired). There are apple head and deer head Chihuahuas.  An apple head Chihuahua is smaller in size and usually has a big head. The deer head Chihuahua is taller and thin, this dog typically having a smaller head.
Chihuahuas usually weigh between 2-6 pounds fully grown, and they are 6-9 inches tall. Chihuahuas are one of the longest living dogs, their life expectancy is up to 16 years, and maybe longer.
Raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate, and products that have artificial sweetners such as (aspartame) that will be in products such as sugar free gum are all poisonous to dogs and cats, so be sure to keep these away from your pets.
If you are planning on giving your puppy table food (human food),  DO NOT FEED YOUR PUPPY TABLE FOOD UNTIL THEY ARE AT LEAST 6 MONTHS OLD. Their digestive systems cannot break it down, because their stomach acids are not fully developed until then, so the food just sits on their stomachs and ends up blocking their intestines. This will result in a slow painful death for your little puppy.
If you plan on paper training your Chihuahua, be sure not to use the part of the news paper that has a lot of colored ink, like the funny adds.  This colored ink can be potentially toxic to your dog.
Chihuahuas get along great with other dogs and cats if they are raised with them from puppies. Chihuahuas also get along well with children, as long as they are dealt with gently.
People usually refer to the name 'tea cup' for Chihuahuas that are small or they think are going to be small. There is no such thing as a teacup Chihuahua. A Chihuahua's normal weight is 2-6 pounds, so some dogs may be a little smaller than others, but there is no specific 'tea cup' breed. People uses this name to entice buyers to buy their dogs. This is all a big hoax to get more money out of you, for some thing that you think you are getting, but you are really not. There is no guarantees on how much a puppy will weigh when it is an adult.
The Chihuahua is a good companion. They are courageous, very lively, intelligent, they love to lick and cuddle, it gives and demands affection, they usually follow you from room to room, and are great watch dogs. Chihuahuas love the outdoors, it is a good place for them to visit, but Chihuahuas must live indoors.
Chihuahuas are intensely loyal, protective and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. This breed may snap at teasing children, because it is too small to get away.
Be sure to socialize your Chihuahua with people and other pets from the time they are puppies.
Chihuahuas are a great dog to have if you are looking for a loving companion for a long time.
